Lessons are individually tailored to each student’s needs and run between 6 to 10 days to achieve your initial license called 'Supervised' Endorsement. The course will bring to the point of flying solo at its end. During the course you will complete a Theory Workbook and final exam that covers all the necessary theory required for this initial endorsement. The courses are run in accordance to a Hang Gliding Federation of Australia approved structured system.
Once completed it will allow you to fly any Hang Gliding Federation of Australia approved training site, under the supervision of the area`s Local Club management.
All certified gliders and equipment are supplied during the course. Accommodation during the course is up to you. There are plenty of options in the Byron Bay area ranging from 5 star motels, through to cabins, backpacker hostels or camping grounds. If you contact the local Tourist Information Center they can help you find what would be most suitable for you.
Course Cost is $2000
After several lessons on the beach you will be ready to progress to short solo glides from the gentle sand dune slopes.
The student will gradually be rope tethered up to varying heights that is progressively comfortable enabling practice for landing techniques.
Tandem Flights are used extensively during your Licensed Solo Course to assist in a relaxed learning environment.
Flight Zone run courses for a motorised harness endorsement (FLPHG) for those wanting to fly under power, but using the familiarity of a weight shift controlled aircraft, the hang glider. The course is run in accordance with the HGFA syllabus.
Training on the beach is a cool, safe and FUN environment.
It is also where you will eventually doing your first solo flights.
Smooth coastal seabreezes are ideally suited for initial your short glides on the soft sand of the beach. Learning to launch and land on the beach area, in predictable and constant winds, allows the student to become very familiar with the weight shift control of the specially designed training hang glider.
